Mayor Eric Adams has appointed four new deputy mayors to oversee key New York City government areas on Friday, March 7th. Adolfo Carrion, Jr. will lead housing, economic development, and workforce initiatives. Suzanne Miles-Gustave, Esq. will manage health and human services, while Jeffrey D. Roth will take charge of city operations. Kaz Daughtry will oversee public safety.

The new appointees bring extensive experience to their roles. Carrion, Jr. currently serves as the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development commissioner. He has also held leadership positions in both local and federal government, including as regional administrator for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. His experience in affordable housing and community development will guide the city’s efforts to expand housing and create economic opportunities.

Miles-Gustave, Esq., a seasoned law and public service professional, has 20 years of experience. She previously served as the acting commissioner of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, where she managed programs to protect and support children and families. As deputy mayor, she will focus on strengthening New York City’s health and human services systems.

Roth brings a wealth of expertise in government operations and emergency management. A former colonel in the Army National Guard, he has held leadership roles in city agencies such as the Fire Department and the Department of Veterans’ Services. Roth will work to ensure that city operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Daughtry, a 19-year veteran of the New York Police Department (NYPD), will now lead the city’s public safety efforts. He has overseen critical response operations and implemented innovative programs like the NYPD’s drone initiative. In his new role, Daughtry will focus on enhancing the city’s safety using technology and community partnerships.

Mayor Adams emphasized the importance of these appointments, saying, “These exemplary public servants have decades of experience serving our city and their fellow New Yorkers, and I thank them for their willingness to step up and serve at such a critical time.” The new deputy mayors will begin their roles on March 14, with Daughtry starting immediately.
